The government has issued special directives for the conversion of 1.2 million agricultural tube-wells to solar power. This was announced by Minister for National Food Security, Tariq Bashir Cheema, at a press conference on Tuesday.
He stated that the project would be financed through banks and that farmers would be offered loans with easy instalment plans. Cheema said that this would help farmers obtain free electricity.
He said that the government is committed to improving the agricultural sector and has implemented policies accordingly.
He noted that the budget includes unprecedented relief for farmers, such as the abolition of sales tax on tractors, and that no duties have been increased on fertilizers.
He said bolstering the production of palm oil, wheat, and cotton is underway.
He continued by saying that the wheat support price will be announced before its sowing, and the cotton intervention price will also be announced soon – taking into account the international price to encourage farmers to cultivate both crops on more land.
