Suffolk, UK – In an extraordinary feat of courage and determination, 102-year-old Manette Baillie from Suffolk has become Britain’s oldest skydiver, marking her birthday with a daring jump from an aircraft. The centenarian embarked on this remarkable adventure to raise funds for three charities close to her heart: the East Anglian Air Ambulance, the Motor Neurone Disease Association, and Benhall Village Hall.
Baillie’s skydive has so far raised £9,000, with her goal set at £30,000. Reflecting on her leap of faith, Baillie described the moment she was poised to jump, saying, “When the door opened, I told myself, there is nothing more than I can do or say… only to jump.” Despite the rush of emotions and adrenaline, she admitted she could recall little of the experience, adding, “Oh, I watched my legs evaporate, and it seems that everything happened very fast… I closed my eyes.”
A large crowd of supporters gathered at the Suffolk airfield to cheer Baillie on, celebrating her safe landing. Having been a resident of the area since 1961, Baillie’s daring act has not only etched her name in the record books but has also inspired her community, proving that even at 102, life can still be an adventure.
Manette Baillie’s record-setting skydive is a testament to the power of perseverance and the belief that age is no barrier to achieving extraordinary things.
