The government will provide a subsidy of Rs1,000 per month to 20 million families on the purchase of essential items under the Ehsaas Rashan Programme, according to a The News report.
The ambitious subsidy programme was announced by Prime Minister Imran Khan a day prior to provide relief to the poor amid surging inflation in the country.
The publication said that the Ehsaas programme and National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) have developed a technology-led, targeted subsidy disbursal programme.
According to the programme design, Ehsaas Rashan will cover 20 million households across Pakistan with a poverty score of less than 39 and an income of Rs31,500 per month. They will be given a 30% subsidy on the purchase of groceries.
