In order to enhance the immunization effort, the local administration in Lahore has planned to arrest unvaccinated persons from Lahore shopping malls, as well as book government personnel rejecting COVID vaccination under the PEEDA legislation.
It was resolved to adopt rigorous COVID SOPs and immunization procedures during a meeting attended by the commissioner, CCPO, and deputy commissioner of Lahore.
Government officials who refuse COVID immunization or who have not yet obtained the vaccines will face charges under the PEEDA legislation.
Vaccination cards of residents entering stores, marketplaces, and shopping malls would be examined, and establishments that violated COVID SOPs would be closed for at least a week.
During the meeting, the commissioner stated that severe enforcement of the prohibition on providing transportation, restaurant services, and gasoline to unvaccinated individuals would begin on Wednesday (tomorrow) and that only vaccinated people would be permitted to access shopping malls.
“Those who enter shopping malls without immunization will be arrested,” he warned, adding that the city witnessed 124,000 vaccinations in a single day on Monday, with more than 40% of the population receiving the first vaccine injection.
He also stated that the police and administration will closely supervise wedding celebrations and the number of people permitted to attend them.
It was also agreed to set up enforcement committees at police stations in Lahore to aggressively implement COVID SOPs.
