Twitter’s long-awaited “Super Follows” feature has finally come, allowing artists to offer memberships to get access to unique content.
The microblogging service hopes to make its platform the preferred online arena for clickable stars in order to increase its own revenue without clogging up the Twitter area with advertisements or promotions.
These new capabilities would let influencers or specialists in various industries give “behind the scenes” material, early access, or other advantages to their members for a monthly price ranging from $3 to $10.
The firm stated that a transaction charge of 3% of subscriptions will be collected from creators until a creative earns $50,000 on the platform, at which point Twitter’s portion will increase to 20%. App store fees, which may amount to up to 30% of payments, are paid by artists who offer subscriptions.
“With Super Follows, users can build an additional level of discourse on Twitter to communicate genuinely with their most active followers – all while earning money,” stated Twitter product manager Esther Crawford in a blog post.
“Creating Super Follows content is for everyone who contributes their unique viewpoints and personalities to Twitter in order to influence the public discourse,” the site stated.
Crawford went on to say that the list includes activists, journalists, singers, authors, gamers, astrology aficionados, beauty gurus, comedians, and others.
The platform previously debuted the function in North America, where it was evaluated with a select number of creators.
The ability for Apple customers to follow creators for exclusive or unique content will be available internationally in the coming weeks. The functionality, on the other hand, will be available to Android users in the future.
Crawford stated that, in addition to Android, the option would be available on the twitter.com website, which can be accessed via browsers.
