Pakistan’s national coach, Misbah-ul-Haq, and bowling coach, Waqar Younis, have both resigned with an instant effect. Retired international players Saqlain Mushtaq and Abdul Razzaq have been chosen as temporary coaches for Pakistan’s forthcoming limited-overs series with New Zealand, according to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Misbah and Waqar were both recruited in September 2019 and have opted to retire after serious deliberation.
Misbah stated, “The quarantine in Jamaica following the West Indies series gave me a chance to think on the previous 24 months as well as the international cricket calendar ahead.” Given that I would have had to continue to spend significant time away from my family, and that in a bio-secure setting, I have chosen to resign from the position.”
He expressed gratitude to the PCB for providing him with the chance and for their support throughout his term.
“After Misbah communicated with me his choice and future intentions, it was an easy one for me to resign since we had stepped into the posts together, worked jointly as a team, and now also step down together,” Waqar said.
