Ghulkin Winter Club organised the first national ice sports competitions in Ghulkin village of Upper Hunza the other day. In collaboration with the Pakistan Winter Sports Association.
The festival included all the winter sports including ice skating, ice hockey, ice football, ice polo and much more!
However, the president of the GB winter sports association told sources that the sport competitions are expected to continue till January 23rd.
Furthermore, 21 teams, including five women-only teams from Punjab, Sindh, AJK, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, GB Scouts, Pakistan Army, Pakistan Air Force, Baltistan, Ghizer, and Hunza will participate in the games.
The chief guest of the event was Canadian High Commissioner, Wendy Gilmour. She acted as a referee in an ice hockey match played between the teams of Altit Scarf and Chipurson Huna.
Obaidullah Baig, GB senior minister, applauded Wendy Gilmour for her help in arranging the sports festival in GB.
Moreover, the festival included Traditional dances performed by elders. Besides that national anthems were also played at the event.
Wendy Gilmour was inspired by the event and said, “It is encouraging to see young people playing ice hockey and the local community members supporting them to learn the game,” the reporters reported.
The ceremony was attended by the administrative officials along with social and political activists.
