Because of “domestic demand,” Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated on Monday that he has imposed a “complete ban” on sugar exports.

“Given the domestic demand, I have ordered a complete ban on the export of sugar. There will be a strict action against smuggling & hoarding. Absolutely zero tolerance for those found negligent in their duties. “In a tweet, the prime minister stated.

The export ban is intended to keep the commodity’s price stable in the country.

“The prime minister requested that the departments in charge keep him informed of the progress of his orders. Any negligence by the officers and staff would be held accountable “According to the report,

Since last month, when the government reduced the cost of several food items to provide relief to the people during Ramazan, consumers have been complaining about a shortage of sugar and flour at utility stores.

Consumers complained in the report that store administrations tied the sale and purchase of oil and sugar to the purchase of other things, rather than providing single items to customers. The allegation was later denied by the staff of Utility Stores Corporation.

Consumers had requested that the government ensure that sugar and other items were available in utility stores.

Sajid Rehman, a representative for Utility Stores Corporation, told that at the time that the shortage was only temporary owing to a rush at the stores.
