The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that the 2022 Asia Cup will be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) instead of Sri Lanka. The decision was made due to the current political unrest in Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka was originally chosen to host the event, but due to the current economic situation in the country, the ICC decided that it would not be feasible to hold the tournament there.
The 2022 Asia Cup is set to occur between 27 August and 11 September, with six participating teams in the main tournament. UAE, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Kuwait will partake in the qualifying round, with the winner proceeding to the main round which includes Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.
The upcoming competition will be the 15th edition of the tournament, played in the T20 format – providing the perfect opportunity for the teams to prepare for the upcoming 2022 T20 World Cup, scheduled for October and November in Australia.
