Defence Day observed with simplicity amid floods crises

The country is observing its 58th Defence Day and Martyrs Day with simplicity today despite the disastrous floods that have submerged a third of Pakistan and killed more than 1,300 people.

Details indicate that the country observed Defense and Martyrs Day to honor the Ghazis and martyrs and to reaffirm its resolve to protect the motherland from any dangers.

On this date in 1965, Indian forces crossed the border into Pakistan during the night in an attempt to strike, but the country foiled the enemy’s clever plans.

After Fajr this morning, special prayers were said in mosques for the development and prosperity of the nation as well as the freedom of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ&K) from India’s oppressive rule.

It is important to note that the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced that the main ceremony honoring Defence and Martyrs Day was postponed in order to demonstrate support for the flood-affected people.

“In solidarity with the flood-affected people of Pakistan, central ceremony at GHQ to commemorate Defence & Martyrs Day on 6 September has been postponed,” the statement had said.

“Pakistan Armed Forces shall continue serving our brothers and sisters struck by unprecedented floods,” it added.

Flash floods caused by torrential rain have wiped out roadways, standing and stored harvests, and destroyed homes and bridges. More than 1,300 people have died and a third of Pakistan has been inundated.
