The 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 25 is expected to be addressed by Prime Minister Imran Khan. According to the initial list of speakers released officially on Tuesday, the address shall be via video-link. This is an annual high profile event of the UN which consists of the general debates of the 193-member assembly. It is said to be opening from the 22nd of September.

This year however it is expected to be a lighter affair with the world leaders staying away from New York instead of gathering together, much due to the corona virus pandemic. All speeches shall be contributed through video-links. Prime minister Imran Khan who as head of the state made his debut speech last year at the UN, is expected to be the sixth speaker of the September 25th session.

Pakistan’s ambassador to the UN, Munir Akram added that just like last year, he expects the Prime Minister to once again raise the cause of Kashmir and Indian oppression therein. He said that the Prime Minister shall also be talking about Pakistan’s hopes in the re-establishment of peace in Afghanistan, its struggle in the pandemic and other international issues in his address.

Speeches are said to be limited to 15 minutes only. The UNGA President Tijjani Muhammad Bande stated last month that each State was to submit a pre-recorded video delivered by its designated high-level official to be played in the General Assembly Hall.
