During the first quarter of FY23, Pakistan’s agricultural exports to Afghanistan surged by 67 percent to $127.95 million from $76.69 million in the same period of FY22.

In September 2022, Pakistan’s overall exports to Afghanistan were valued at $88.30 million, up from $49 million in September 2021.

Imports increased by 66 percent from $75.46 million in August to $125 million in September 2022, while exports fell by 11 percent from August to September.

In September 2022, exports of goods like rice, dairy products, fresh produce, medicines, and fruits and vegetables rose. Slag, tableware, home goods, and plastics had a decline in exports during the reporting month.

According to sources, non-agricultural exports climbed by 84 percent in September 2022 compared to the prior September, while they increased by 60 percent in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year.

Vegetables, fats, food preparation products, rice, potatoes, and bananas are Pakistan’s top agricultural exports to Afghanistan. Pakistan’s top non-agricultural exports are pharmaceuticals and cement.

Sources said that Pakistan has allowed duty-free import on a unilateral basis to Afghanistan due to which bilateral trade between both countries is increasing.
