The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) has released the pass rates for students who took their exams in September 2022. Two Pakistani students have represented their nation with pride by earning the maximum scores necessary to be eligible for cash prizes.
For the September sitting of the ACCA exams, 83,630 students from all around the world registered, and it is especially encouraging to see Pakistani students perform well on the exams and establish a strong reputation for their nation as having top finance talent on a worldwide scale. We’re witnessing a growing trend of ACCA students and professionals from Pakistan making a worldwide impact with their talent and desire; it’s not just about one or two deserving students. This further demonstrates how, given the proper resources and a worldwide stage, our individuals are capable of competing and succeeding on a global scale, according to Rashid Khan, ACCA’s spokesperson for the Asia Pacific area.

Malik Shahmir Pervez– Motivation for all those suffering from mental stress
The Advanced Audit and Assurance (AAA) exam, which is regarded as one of the most difficult of all ACCA papers, is how Malik Shahmir Pervez attained the position of a global leader.
From a poor background, Shahmir’s father worked as a truck driver in Rawalpindi. Before enrolling in the Army Public School, he completed his early education at a nearby Urdu medium school.
He had to get used to the English-only curriculum at his new school, but after demonstrating his ability in APS examinations, he was eligible for a scholarship. After finishing pre-medical at Fauji Foundation College with an A-1 mark, he was unable to continue his education since his father, who was also his best friend, passed away unexpectedly.
Shahmir suffered from serious mental stress for two years and would spend the entire day in his room. He was finally able to recover from the emotional struggle with his family’s love and support, and he decided to resume his studies by enrolling in the widely respected ACCA Qualification.
“I feel it’s important for everyone to talk about mental health more openly, and the reason I’m sharing my struggle with managing all kinds of anxieties is simply that I would like to tell those who are currently going through a similar phase that it’s okay to be not okay and it’s never too late to press the restart button,” he says
This is Shahmir’s first international honor and third national distinction since joining ACCA.
Since he has never been a lover of rote learning and prefers to concentrate on understanding the topics, he enjoys studying with ACCA. The certifications and examinations that ACCA has created show that it is the most creative professional body in the world. The 23-year-old, who needs just one more paper to become an ACCA affiliate, envisions starting his career at a big4 firm and wants to enter the audit profession as soon as he earns his ACCA qualification.
Shahmir keeps himself active while not studying by participating in sports like cricket and table tennis.
Noman Abbasi – A role model for those who never give up
One of the two Pakistanis who made the ACCA’s list of global prizewinners by earning the best points on the Financial Reporting (FR) exam is Noman Abbasi, who turns 22 this month.
The Abbasi family moved to Karachi some fifty years ago in search of better economic opportunities. They were originally from Kashmir.
Here, Noman’s father finished his MBBS, after which he joined the army. Since 1982, when he completed his military service, he has been managing his own private practice.
Noman felt under pressure to major in pre-medicine in college because his father is a doctor and his brother is an engineer, but he always knew his interests lay elsewhere.
“I desired a more fulfilling career that would allow me to explore the world.” So, choosing accountancy was a no-brainer for me.
Listening to the news, Noman’s father, who is a doctor by profession, had tears in his eyes. He proudly admits that his son’s achievement is undoubtedly the highlight of his life and nothing else can ever come close to the feeling of seeing one’s son or daughter succeed in such a coveted exam.
Soon after passing Intermediate, Noman chose to start his ACCA journey and has shown exemplary performance in all his exams so far. ‘When in college, I never felt great studying due to the lack of interest. But now I get such an adrenaline rush analyzing the financial data and preparing reports that I don’t need any other motivation to stay focused.’
In addition to his attendance at his online classes, Noman spends about 6 hours per day studying. Noman said, “I’m able to attend all of my lectures online thanks to the flexibility that ACCA provides and don’t have to waste time traveling to and from my house in Baldia Town, which would have taken hours otherwise.”
When not in class, Noman enjoys listening to music and cites Canadian rapper Drake as his greatest source of personal inspiration. I would like to reach comparable heights and make my family and country proud by demonstrating how a person can do anything by working hard and making the right decisions, just like Drake, who came from a humble background and made it big with his ability and ambition.
