You better believe a Grammy nomination for artist Arooj Aftab will materialize. The singer, who made history by becoming the first Pakistani to win a Grammy last year, has received a second nomination for her duet “Udhero Na” with Anoushka Shankar in the category of Best Global Music Performance.
Aftab announced the news via The New York Times list of complete nominations on Instagram on Wednesday.
In another post, Aftab said, “Oh my God! ‘Udhero Na’ has been nominated for a Grammy. Congratulations to me and to Anoushka Shankar, Maeve Gilchrist and Nadje Noordhuis. Four badass women come together, play a song that I wrote when I was 15 and it’s getting its flowers. So, I’m very emotional and I’m very glad and I’m really really, just, I don’t even know. I’m in this hall of a ship, we’re about to perform in about 20 minutes or so. I don’t know how I’m going to do that but this is great. So, thank you.”
Beyonce, the pop icon who topped the list of nominees for the Grammy Awards, will compete for Album Of The Year, the highest honour, against Adele, Harry Styles, and other artists.
Beyonce received nine nominations for the most prestigious music awards. She now has 88 nominations overall, which ties her with her husband Jay-Z for the most nominations in Grammy history.
With Adele’s 30, Harry’s House from Styles, Special from Lizzo, and entries from ABBA, Bad Bunny, Mary J. Blige, Brandi Carlile, and Coldplay, her dance-focused album Renaissance will compete for album of the year.
