Aqeel Khan, who has held the No. 1 ranking in Pakistan for the longest time, Muzammil Murtaza, Muhammad Shoaib, and Barkat Ullah all advanced to the men’s singles semifinals of the 6th Sheheryar Malik Memorial Pakistan Open Tennis Championship 2022 after winning their respective quarterfinal matches on Wednesday at the Sports Board Punjab Tennis Academy, Nishtar Park.
In the men’s singles quarterfinals:
- Aqeel Khan beat Ahmad Nael 6-4, 6-0,
- M Shoaib beat Abdullah Adnan 6-4, 6-1
- Barkat Ullah beat Yousaf Khalil 6-1, 6-3
- Muzamil Murtaza beat Mudassar Murtaza 6-4, 6-3.
In the ladies’ singles quarterfinals:
- Sarah Mahboob Khan beat Zainab Ali 6-0, 6-0
- Meheq Khokhar beat Amna Qayum 6-0, 6-4
- Noor Malik beat Zahra Suleman 6-0, 6-1
- Sheeza Sajid beat Rahay ul Ain 6-2, 6-2
In the seniors 50 plus quarterfinals, Rashid Malik beat Waheed 6-1, 6-1.
Umer Dilshad/Asghar was defeated by Talha Waheed/Tanvir Munir in the seniors 35 plus doubles pre-quarterfinals. 6-0, 6-4, Salman Ahmad and Amir Mumtaz won. Mian Mubarak and Sohail Feroze 6-2, 6-2, defeated Ashar Khan/Adnan Majeed Jahan Khan/Zakir Ullah 6-2, 6-2, defeat Sheheryar Salamt and Kasif Rehmat Umair Fayyaz/Rana Humayun, 6-1, 6-1 Beat by Faisal Anwar and Hadi Hussain Abdul Rasheed/Ali Imam 6-0, 6-1, defeat Arif Feroze/Israr Gul Mehboob Waheed/M Yousaf Mustafa Burney/Irfan Ullah lost to Shehzad (PAF)/Inam Ullah 6-0, 6-1 and 6-2, 7-6.
In the first round of the boys’ U-16 competition, Asad Zaman defeated M Salaar 7-5, 6-3, Ameer Mazari defeated Hamza Rehmat 6-2, 6-3, and Nabeel Qayum defeated Yahya Musa Luni. Abubakar Khalil was defeated by Hussnain Ali Rizwan 6-3, 6-1, 6-1, Waleed Humayun defeated Ismail Ahmad 4-6, 7-5, 10-5, Shazaib Zahid was defeated by Abdul Basit 7-5, 6-1, and Hanzla Anwar was defeated by Ameer Hamza 6-0, 6-0.
