Bilawal Bhutto Fulfills promise to underage Rickshaw Driver Alisha, provides her with her own home

The Sindh government kept its promise to give a young female rickshaw driver in Karachi a residence as well as a job with the government. Alisha in Shah Faisal Colony has received a two-room house with an 80 square yard size as a gift.

Alisha, 17, shared a small rental home in the Drigh Road neighborhood of the big city with her mother and a sibling. Several months ago, her father passed away. Fortunately, he had taught Alisha how to operate a rickshaw while he was sick.

Alisha struggled to get a suitable career when her father passed away in order to provide for her family. The family experienced severe financial difficulties. In order to help the family, Alisha chose to be a rickshaw driver. Although she was able to maintain the kitchen, she had an extremely difficult time paying the rent.

On June 17, shortly after Alisha’s tale aired on Express News TV, Nawab Wassan got in touch with her and pledged to offer the Sindh government’s full support. He also pledged to provide a home for her family. In the following six months, the Sindh government built a two-room house on a plot of land and gave it to Alisha.

Speaking to the media outside Alisha’s house, Nawab Wassan said that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had immediately taken notice of the Express-News story of the 17-year-old orphan girl and directed the government to gift her family a house in the Benazir Housing Scheme.

The ownership documents of the two-room house were handed over to Alisha on Saturday. The Sindh government also announced a job for her. He added that about 6,000 houses have been built in Sindh under the Benazir Housing Scheme.
