The International Cricket Council (ICC) has recognized that there was a mistake that allowed India to be ranked first among men’s teams in the ICC Test rankings.
Australia is now again ranked first in the Test rankings after the ICC made its revision, followed by India.
“The ICC acknowledges, for a short period of time on February 15, 2023, that, due to a technical error, India was erroneously displayed as the No 1 Test team on the ICC website. We apologize for any inconvenience caused,” the ICC said while posting an updated ranking list.
With 126 rating points, 11 more than India’s 115, Australia will enter the second Test against India in Delhi, which begins on Friday (January 17), as the top-ranked team.
India is competing for a spot in the ICC World Test Championship final in 2022–2023 after winning the opening Test in Nagpur by an inning and 132 runs.
Pakistan has 88 rating points, which places them in sixth place. In the earlier error, Australia had 111 points, while India had 115.
