On Tuesday, after acquiring votes from a considerable majority, Pakistan has yet again got elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC). The country wrapped up a number of 169 votes out of 193 members in the General Assembly.
The combat over four prevailing seats occurred between five candidates belonging to the Asia-Pacific region. Out of all, the major number of votes were won by Pakistan.
Since the start of the year 2018, Pakistan has been up there carrying out its duties in the HRC. As the country got re-elected, it will continue to serve for the upcoming three years, starting from first January 2021. Delivering his winning speech, Pakistan’s Permanent Mission conferred to the UN exclaimed,
“The international community has once again reposed confidence in Pakistan”
Since the time HRC came into being, it is Pakistan’s fifth time at winning the election of the UN’s premier body in the human rights department.
