Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has constituted a 13-member committee to work out transferring the power distribution companies (DISCOs) to the provinces.
Defense Minister Khawaja Asif is the chairman of the newly formed committee. The group will be comprised of the province’s chief ministers, and energy, trade, and petroleum ministries.
The 13-member group also includes the secretaries of power, privatization, and the Council of Common Interests (CII). The committee’s finalized Terms of Reference (ToRs) have also been established.
Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister, has directed the committee to provide its recommendations within ten days.
It should be noted that the prime minister gave the aforementioned committee strong instructions to complete the policy as soon as possible when he presided over a high-level meeting last week to discuss the transfer of DISCOs to the provinces.
The meeting was informed that transferring the DISCOs to the provinces was a legal action that would greatly reduce power theft.
