The Senate Standing Committee on Power Division on Wednesday informed that work on all three lots including Dasu Hydropower Project, Mansehra Sub Station, and Islamabad Sub Station has already been started.

According to the state news agency, the committee that convened with Senator Saifullah Abro as its chair was informed that the transmission line’s total length was 254.6 kilometers and featured 686 towers.

The chairman requested information on the project’s tendering and bidding process after expressing unhappiness with the presentation on the 765 kV double circuit transmission line.

In addition, the committee addressed selecting members for various power distribution firms’ boards of directors. (DISCOs). The committee also complained about the BOD members of DISCOs going unpunished.

According to Saifullah Abro, non-professionals were submitted to the BODs rather than engineers. He continued by saying that BOD appointments should only be based on merit.

The committee’s next meeting will be where the electricity division officials will present all project-related information, according to the chairman.

Additionally, the committee discussed the power country-wide outage. The additional secretary for the power division informed the committee that the Prime Minister had formed a committee to look into the power outage and that the committee had delivered its findings to the Cabinet.

Senior officials from the Power Division, NTDC, and the relevant departments, as well as Senators Fida Muhammad, Haji Hidayatullah Khan, Sana Jamali, and Prince Umer, attended the meeting.
