Amir Khan, a retired British boxer, was given a two-year ban from all sports after testing positive for a banned substance during what turned out to be his final match.

According to UK Anti-Doping, Khan, a former light-welterweight world champion and Olympic silver medalist, tested positive for the anabolic substance ostarine in February 2022, following his defeat to Kell Brook in Manchester.

Ostarine is a selective androgen receptor modulator that, according to UKAD, is intended to have outcomes comparable to those of testosterone. It can aid in muscle growth.

Khan, who made his retirement announcement three months after the fight, admitted to breaking the anti-doping rules but insisted that he had not done it on purpose. That was approved after a hearing in January by a neutral panel. His ban will expire on April 5, 2024.

Notwithstanding the fact that the independent panel disqualified Khan’s result from the fight against Brook, he was one of the best British boxers of his time and retired with a 34-6 record.

It’s a sad conclusion to a career that began at the Junior Olympics in 2003 with a gold medal and the Olympics in Athens in 2004 at the age of 17.

Khan defeated Andreas Kotelnik to earn the WBA light-welterweight title in Manchester in July 2009. He then defeated Zab Judah to win the WBA and IBF crowns in 2011. He was defeated by Lamont Peterson in his subsequent fight, and Peterson later tested positive for synthetic testosterone.

Afterwards, Khan defeated to Danny Garcia, Canelo Alvarez, and Terence Crawford in world title battles. Khan has made appearances on reality TV programs in recent years, and this month he will take part in “I’m A Celebrity… South Africa.”
