On Sunday, the PTI formed a three-member committee to hold a dialogue regarding the current political crisis in the country with the JI, a day after the JI emir Sirajul Haq launched a “consensus offensive” to bring the government and opposition closer.

The committee comprises:

  • Pervaiz Khattak
  • Ejaz Chaudhry
  • Mian Mehmood ur Rasheed

Previously, the JI chief met with PTI Chairman Imran Khan and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at their residences in Lahore, during which Haq proposed the formation of a committee to develop a consensus for holding elections in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and eventually the whole country.

PM Shehbaz and Imran commended Haq’s efforts and agreed that elections were the way forward to address the economic, political, and constitutional crises in the country.

Sources close to JI stated that Haq also planned to meet PPP leader Asif Zardari after Eid and hoped to reach a breakthrough in the next two weeks.

PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari had earlier proposed all political parties sit together and develop a consensus on a single date for the elections, for which the PPP has formed a three-member body.

The three PPP leaders’ primary task is to persuade the PML-N and JUI-F to hold talks with the PTI on all issues, including elections, to end the ongoing crises.

In recent days, there has been an emphasis on dialogue between all political parties in the country, with a Dawn editorial stating that “inflexible egos have no place in a democratic political system” and urging leaders to sit together and talk to prevent an all-out catastrophe.
