Ustadh Shafiq Zaman, a calligrapher from Pakistan, had a deep desire to contribute to the beautification of Masjid an-Nabawi, one of the most sacred places in Islam. He wanted to use his skills to create something that would bring joy to those who visited the mosque and honor the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
In 1990, he got the chance to fulfill his dream when he entered a competition in the Hijaz to restore the 133-year-old calligraphy on the old structure of the mosque and create new designs for the new structures that had been added to the building. His work was highly praised by the judges, and he was declared the winner of the competition.
Since then, Ustadh Shafiq Zaman has been working at Masjid al-Nabawi for the last 30 years, creating calligraphy that adorns the walls of the mosque. His work is highly regarded and is used in the blessed rawda of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
For those who descend from the Subcontinent, Ustadh Shafiq Zaman’s contribution is a matter of honor and happiness. His dedication to his craft and his willingness to use his talents to beautify one of the holiest places in Islam is an inspiration to many.
May Allah bless Ustadh Shafiq Zaman immensely for his efforts and may his work continue to bring joy and honor to those who visit Masjid an-Nabawi
