In a rare response, the military forces warned on Wednesday that May 9, 2023 — the day pandemonium seized the country after the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan — would be remembered as a “dark chapter” in history.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) claimed in a statement that following the PTI chief’s detention from the Islamabad High Court on National Accountability Bureau orders, there was a “well-thought-out plan” in which the army was targeted.
“There were organized attacks on army properties and installations shortly after [Khan’s arrest], and anti-army slogans were raised,” the military’s media wing claimed.
The ISPR termed the PTI leaders “hypocrites” for inciting their workers against the armed forces while simultaneously praising the military — in an attempt to cover up their criticism.
“On the one hand, these evil elements vigorously stir up public sentiments in order to achieve their narrow and selfish goals, and on the other hand, they never tire of emphasizing the importance of the army to the country while throwing dust in the people’s eyes.” This is an instance of hypocrisy.”
According to the military’s propaganda wing, a gang of people clad in political clothing in their desire for power has done unprecedented damage to the country that Pakistan’s enemies have not done since its creation.
“The army showed extreme patience, tolerance, and restraint and without caring about its own reputation worked with extreme patience and endurance in the wider interest of the country.”
