Tafheen Sharif, a British Pakistani woman hailing from Azad Kashmir, has made history by becoming the first Asian Muslim to be elected Deputy Mayor of Tameside, England. Sharif’s appointment is set to commence on May 23, marking a significant milestone for women in politics and the Asian Muslim community.
Sharif, a member of the Labour Party and previously the youngest councillor in 2012, has also served as the deputy police commissioner for Bedfordshire. Throughout her political career, Sharif has been vocal about the humanitarian issue of Kashmir and has stressed the need for a serious solution.
With her recent election as Deputy Mayor, Sharif now has a bigger platform to raise the Kashmir issue and plans to address it at every forum. She emphasized that everyone has a role to play in solving the problem.
