Sindh Information and Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon declared that the Peoples Bus Service in Karachi would be expanding its fleet, as the provincial government was negotiating an agreement with a local manufacturer of diesel-electric hybrid buses.
Mr Memon told foreign investors and the local business community at a ceremony to launch the diesel-electric hybrid bus built by Yutong Master Company that the Sindh government will provide all possible support and facility to increase their capacity and output.
During the inaugural event, representatives from the local manufacturer handed Memon the keys to a diesel-electric hybrid bus.
On the day, Sharjeel Memon stated that Pakistan’s former president Asif Ali Zardari, Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah had given special instructions to the provincial officials concerned to improve public transport services in all cities and districts of the province.
“There is a clear direction from party chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to modernize public transport services in all cities and districts of Sindh,” he explained.
He also stated that a bus depot for the transportation department would be erected and that more bus depots would be established in the city on suitable property based on the needs of the public transportation systems.
Sharjeel Memon, who took to Twitter today, stated that a new fleet of diesel-electric hybrid buses will arrive in Karachi very soon because the model bus has already been reached.
“The transport department is bringing new transport projects to the people of Sindh.” Inshallah, the Sindh government of the PPP would give the best possible conveyance,” he added.
