In response to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s orders, a comprehensive strategy has been developed to modernise Pakistan Railways, including the installation of international-standard solar panels at seven railway stations to save electricity.
The solar panels would be erected at 45 railway stations and offices in Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Multan, Sukkur, and Karachi divisions, according to reports, with a budget of Rs40 million.
According to sources, Pakistan Railways has chosen three locations in Peshawar, five in Rawalpindi Division, twenty in Lahore Division, four in Multan Division, five in Sukkur Division, three in Quetta Division, and five in Karachi Division in the first phase.
Solar panels will be constructed at other train stations across the country after this project is completed, they added.
The excess electricity generated by these panels will be sent to the main grid station of the Water and Electricity Development Authority.
