Citizens across Pakistan are forced to endure excessive heat as a result of a prolonged power outage, with power distribution firms estimating a shortfall of 6,300 megawatts (MW).

According to power sector sources, total electricity consumption stands at a startling 26,900 megawatts, while total electricity generation falls substantially short at 20,600 megawatts.

According to Power Division sources, the national grid is now generating a modest 7,900 megawatts of electricity, while independent power producers (IPPs) contribute an additional 7,700 megawatts, accounting for a sizable percentage of the country’s electrical supply.

However, it is worth noting that nuclear power plant electricity generation only reaches 3,130 megawatts, aggravating the current issue.

Government thermal power facilities generate only 520 megawatts, unable to meet rising energy demand.

Renewable energy sources, while admirable in their efforts, are currently unable to close the significant gap in power supply. Wind power plants contribute 1,115 megawatts, whereas solar plants produce only 100 megawatts.

Officials from the Power Division acknowledged that the inhabitants are experiencing lengthy load shedding for 6 to 8 hours.
