According to rumors that appeared Friday night, the International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 World Cup 2024 will be hosted from June 4 to 30 in the West Indies and America next year.
According to ESPNcricinfo, the cricketing organisation has already shortlisted ten venues for the games in both countries.
The world cup matches for next year will be held in Florida, Dallas, New York, and Morrisville, according to the cricket website.
However, Morrisville, Dallas, and New York do not yet hold international cricket venue designation, as required by ICC standards.
The ICC will select the venues in conjunction with the cricket boards of the United States and the West Indies.
Furthermore, 20 teams will compete in the 2024 World Cup, which will be contested in a different format than is now in use.
The teams will be divided into four groups of five teams each in the first round, and the top two teams from each group will be split into two groups for the Super 8 phase.
According to ESPNcricinfo, the top two teams from each Super 8 group will advance to the semi-finals.
“The 2024 T20 World Cup is the first of eight men’s global events in the ICC’s next commercial cycle from 2024-31, which was finalised in 2021,” the website continues.
It went on to say that naming the United States as a co-host was “part of a strategic move by the ICC.”
This move was motivated by two goals.
“First, the North American market was identified as a strong area for game growth. Second, the ICC’s desire to include cricket in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games (LA28).”
