The Pakistan Cricket Board has reappointed former captain and prolific hitter Asif Ali as the new chief selector for the men’s national side.
Inzamam-ul-Haq, Pakistan’s men’s chief selector from 2016 to 2019, has been re-hired ahead of the Asia Cup and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
Between 1992 and 2007, he captained Pakistan in 120 Tests, 378 One-Day Internationals, and one Twenty20 International. He is Pakistan’s highest international run-scorer, with 20,541 runs across all formats.
Inzamam’s first task as captain would be to choose a squad for Pakistan’s forthcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan in Sri Lanka, which begins on August 22, followed by the Asia Cup and, eventually, the Cricket World Cup.
Pakistan’s World Cup campaign will off on October 6 against the Netherlands at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The final will be held on November 19 at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad.
