Former Punjab Chief Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has been sent to Attock Jail after being re-arrested by Islamabad police from Lahore yesterday.
Soon after he was transferred to Islamabad, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad ordered his incarceration for 15 days in accordance with Pakistan’s Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).
According to the order issued by the Islamabad administration, the law and order situation could worsen as a result of Pervaiz Elahi, a prominent office-bearer of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Elahi is one of several PTI leaders who have been charged with violating the MPO in the aftermath of the May 9 unrest.
His detention happened just hours after the LHC ordered the National Accountability Bureau to release PTI President Imran Khan and forbade officials from detaining him in any case.
Shortly after being released on court orders, the capital police arrested the PTI president on Zahoor Elahi Road under the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order Act.
The LHC had directed the additional registrar for security, the DIG Operations and other top police officers to ensure Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi’s safe return home.
It is worth noting that Elahi was arrested by the National Accountability Agency (NAB) for refusing to disclose information to the accountability agency in assets beyond means case involving him, his son Monis Elahi, and other family members.
