The Pakistan women’s football team defeated Laos in an exciting match to finish fifth in a six-nation tournament hosted at the King Fahd Stadium in Taif, Saudi Arabia.
The game, which had ended in a 1-1 tie after regulation time, was won by Pakistan in a penalty shootout 4-2. It was Pakistan’s first-ever penalty shootout victory, which set a new record.
Zulfia Nazeer was the star of the day, scoring the decisive goal that placed Pakistan on the scoreboard today. This goal was the only one scored by the Pakistani squad throughout the tournament.
The Pakistan women’s team performed mixed throughout the competition. Pakistan has previously faced both Saudi Arabia and Malaysia. The Pakistani squad was defeated in their encounter against Saudi Arabia.
The teams battled to a goalless draw in their first encounter against Malaysia, despite Pakistan having chances to score.
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Laos, Malaysia, and Bhutan compete in the women’s football competition.
Aside from Laos and Pakistan, the remaining teams advanced to the semi-finals.
