The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has ordered the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to re-conduct MDCAT 2023 exams within six weeks after a cheating scandal emerged following the test last month.
The verdict, which was reserved last month, has announced that the Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Test (MDCAT) conducted on September 10th, 2023, is canceled. The test will be retaken within six weeks to ensure timely admission into medical institutions.
The High Court ordered Khyber Medical University to conduct a transparent test according to formalities. The Provincial government will provide security via the District Administration and police.
After the decision, the court concluded 70 petitions from applicants who alleged massive cheating in the previous exam and sought a retest.
During the previous hearing, the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) submitted an initial report. The report revealed that a group of top officials was behind the act of cheating. FIRs were registered against 219 suspects.
Last month, several candidates were arrested for cheating during the MDCAT 2023 on September 10th. Bluetooth devices were confiscated from the students during the exam by the police and local administration.
