Federal Employees Get 25% pay rise

A 25% ad hoc increase in the salaries of the Federal mployees following successful negotiations between the protesting secretariat staffers and a three-member ministerial committee, the Government notified on Thursday.

According to the finance ministry that the federal employees in grade 1 to 19 would get the increased salaries from March 1. It added that the ad hoc relief could be made part of the basic salary in the next fiscal year.

After Wednesday’s fierce clashes among the employees and security forces in the federal capital, An agreement with protesters was reached.
The employees had been protesting the increase in their wages.

On the occasion, State Minister Ali Muhammad Khan thanked the prime minister for taking a keen interest in the issues of the government employees. The government, he said, followed the model of the Madina State. He appreciated the employees for a peaceful movement for their rights.

Rashid also said that a budget proposal would be put before the cabinet for the financial needs of the army, rangers, police and other law-enforcement departments. He said all cases against the protesting employees will be withdrawn and the arrested protesters would be released.

Earlier, the government released all the employees and their leaders, who were arrested during the clashes on Wednesday. On Thursday, after the success of the negotiations, the protesting employees once again marched from the press club to the D Chowk.

According to Rehman Bajwa the chairman of the All Government Employees Alliance, “We may be affiliated with any political party but we will remain loyal to the government.” He added that the anti-government slogans were chanted during the protest by those political people. “I appeal to them not to make this platform a political arena.”
