Top Indian batsman Shubman Gill has been hospitalized due to a further deterioration in his health, casting doubt on his availability for the important match against Pakistan scheduled for October 14 in Ahmedabad.
Gill, the leading run-scorer in one-day internationals this year, has formed a formidable opening partnership with captain Rohit Sharma. However, reports from Indian media indicate that Gill is still grappling with dengue fever and was admitted to the hospital due to a low platelet count.
The reports suggest that Gill was taken to a medical facility in Chennai on Monday, with a medical panel from the Indian Cricket Board overseeing his treatment. Having already missed India’s opening World Cup match against Australia, he is also likely to sit out the upcoming game against Afghanistan. Sources indicate that a full recovery before the match against Pakistan appears unlikely.
“If Shubman Gill manages to recover from the illness, he will fly directly to Ahmedabad,” the reports further stated.
Additionally, the Managing Editor of Aaj Tak and Sports Tak, Vikrant Gupta, has also lent credibility to these reports regarding the batsman.
“I don’t see Shubman Gill participating in the Pakistan match,” he remarked on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“The young player must prioritize recovery and maintaining good health. With the World Cup being a lengthy tournament, his contributions will surely be valuable when the team requires him the most.”
