Pakistani athlete, Haider Ali won a gold medal in Discus Throw during the ongoing Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China, on Thursday
Haider clinched the highest award with a throw of 51.23m in his fourth attempt.
Japan’s Yamato Shimbo secured silver with a throw of 49.70m, meanwhile China’s Zhang Xuelong throw of 48.26m helped him bag bronze.
The Pakistani star also managed to book his spot in the Paris 2024 Paralympics after meeting the minimum entry standard of 39m. It must be noted that Haider’s all six throws were over the 39m mark today.
In the Discus Throw event at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, he also secured Pakistan’s maiden gold medal.
Haider’s accomplishments extend beyond the Discus Throw as he also took home silver and bronze in the Long Jump competition at the 2008 and 2016 Paralympics, respectively.
Haider, who is undoubtedly the best para-athlete from Pakistan, has won six medals in all from Asiad. He earned medals in the Javelin Throw, Discuss Throw, 100m, and Long Jump events at the Asian Para Games.
