Canada, under the leadership of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), unveils a comprehensive plan aimed at tackling labor shortages, fostering economic growth, and embracing global talent.
Admission Targets
The plan outlines the admission of 485,000 new permanent residents in 2024, with a progressive increase to 500,000 in 2025 and maintaining this level in 2026, showcasing Canada’s commitment to robust immigration.
Empowering French-Speaking Immigrants
A key focal point of the plan is to enhance linguistic diversity, specifically targeting an increase in French-speaking immigrants outside Quebec. The goal is to elevate the intake from 4.4% in 2022 to 6% in 2024, 7% in 2025, and an ambitious 8% in 2026.
Strategic Workforce Strengthening
Addressing critical labor force gaps is a primary objective, with a strategic focus on key sectors such as health, STEM fields, trades, transportation, and agriculture. The plan aims to fortify the workforce and drive economic growth by strategically targeting these areas.
Express Entry and Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
The Express Entry system, a cornerstone for skilled immigrants, is set to admit 110,700 permanent residents in 2024, with a gradual increase to 117,500 in both 2025 and 2026. Simultaneously, the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) targets 110,000 immigrants in 2024, rising to 120,000 in 2025 and maintaining the same target in 2026.
Family Reunification
In addition to economic immigration streams, the plan places significant emphasis on family reunification. The Spousal, Partner, and Children sponsorship program targets 82,000 admissions in 2024, with a slight increase to 84,000 in both 2025 and 2026. The Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) is set to welcome 32,000 immigrants in 2024, followed by 34,000 immigrants in both 2025 and 2026.
Global Model for Inclusive Growth
Canada’s Immigration Levels Plan 2024-2026 reflects the nation’s recognition of immigration as a vital driver of economic growth, social vibrancy, and innovation. Rooted in principles of diversity and inclusion, Canada’s immigration policies aim to welcome individuals from all backgrounds and cultures, strengthening its multicultural fabric and maintaining its reputation as an open and welcoming society.
Building a Prosperous Future
The plan sets the stage for a dynamic and prosperous future, propelled by the talents and contributions of newcomers globally. Canada’s commitment to immigration as a fundamental aspect of its national identity reaffirms its dedication to building a diverse, inclusive, and economically thriving society.
