The Hangor-Class submarines with Air-Independent Propulsion are slated to join the Pakistan Navy next year.
According to sources, the Hangor-class submarines were reportedly built by China Ship Building Industry Corporation and will join the Pakistan Navy after launching and completing trials next year, while the remaining seven submarines will be integrated into the Pakistan Navy in the following years.
The development of these Hangor-class submarines is the consequence of a major defense pact signed between Pakistan and China in 2015.
According to the agreement, four submarines are being manufactured in China, while the remaining four are being built at the Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works.
The building of Hangor-class submarines is an important turning point in Pakistan’s defense agreements. These submarines will be equipped with the Submarine Air-Independent Propulsion System, increasing the Pakistan Navy’s maritime capabilities.
