Power distribution companies, excluding K-Electric, are reportedly seeking a significant increase of Rs4.6617 per unit in January 2024 bills, citing fuel charges adjustment (FCA) for November 2023.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA), representing Discos, has applied to Nepra for approval.
In November 2023, the total electricity generated was 7,547 GWh, costing Rs54.113 billion. The breakdown includes contributions from hydel power (36.50%), coal-fired plants (13.08%), gas-based plants (9.21%), RLNG (10.57%), bagasse (0.36%), wind power (1.96%), solar power (0.66%), nuclear power (20.83%), and electricity imported from Iran (0.39%).
Nepra has scheduled a public hearing on December 27 to review the proposal.
