In a historic development, Pakistani parliamentarians have achieved a milestone by securing positions as members of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Board for the first time in the nation’s history. Senator Faisal Saleem Rehman has been successfully elected as a member of both the Parliamentary Board of the IMF and the World Bank.
This significant achievement places Pakistan among the 140 countries worldwide that are part of the Parliamentary Network on the IMF and the World Bank. The role of this network involves crafting recommendations for reforms aimed at poverty alleviation and ensuring economic stability.
Senator Faisal Saleem, hailing from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, assumed his position in the upper house in March 2021, and his term is set to conclude in March 2027.
His election to the international boards reflects a growing recognition of Pakistani parliamentarians on the global stage, signifying their active involvement in shaping policies related to economic development and poverty reduction.
