Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MARI), a major natural gas producer in Pakistan, has announced a significant gas discovery at the Shewa-2 well in North Waziristan district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The company, with a 55% working interest in the Waziristan Block, shared the news in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange. The well, drilled to 4,577 meters on November 01, 2023, successfully appraised the Lockhart and Hangu formations and tested the hydrocarbon potential of exploratory targets like Samanasuk and Kawagarh formations.
The Kawagarh formation yielded a sustainable gas flow of 0.607 MMSCFD during the Drill Stem Test. This discovery, combined with previously identified hydrocarbon-bearing reservoirs, reinforces Mari Petroleum’s exploration success in the region.
The company, known for its integrated oil and gas operations, maintains a high exploration success rate of around 70%, significantly above industry averages.
