An obligatory charitable donation, known as Sadaqah-e-Fitr or Fitrana, and compensation for missing fasting due to health reasons during Ramadan 2024 is set at Rs300 per person, about equal to two kilograms of wheat flour. This was announced by the Chairman of the Shariah Board Pakistan, Sheikh Al-Hadith Professor Dr. Mufti Muhammad Zafar Iqbal Jalali.

He stressed the importance of those who can afford it giving Fitrana compensation according to their financial ability. The amounts are Rs600 for oats, Rs2,400 for dates, and Rs4,400 for raisins.

For those unable to fast the entire month due to chronic illness or with no chance of recovery, compensation rates are Rs9,000 for wheat flour, Rs18,000 for oats, Rs72,000 for dates, and Rs132,000 for raisins.

Dr. Jalali clarified that compensation for fasting is for those chronically ill or permanently unable to fast, not for travelers or those who can make up for missed fasts later.

Travelers and those temporarily unable to fast were obligated to make up for missed fasts, as he maintained that Fidya could not be a substitute for abstaining from fasting.

This year, the minimum amount for Zakat was set at Rs135,179 by the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Security. Zakat applies to savings or profit and loss sharing accounts with a balance of Rs135,179 or more. Therefore, those meeting the criteria must pay 2.5% of their total account balance as Zakat.
