Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and members of his federal cabinet have made a significant decision to abstain from drawing salaries or enjoying any perks, as part of the government’s austerity measures.
This resolution was reached during a meeting of the federal cabinet chaired by PM Shehbaz in Islamabad. The cabinet convened to discuss the country’s overall economic and security situation, addressing various agenda items including the Staff Level Agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the formation of the PIA Holding Company.
This development follows President Asif Ali Zardari’s decision to forego his presidential salary, aiming to promote prudent financial management in the nation and alleviate burden on the national exchequer.
