YouTube has introduced a new avenue for creators to monetize their content, resembling TikTok’s revenue model for short videos.
In an effort to accommodate creators specializing in short-form content similar to TikTok, YouTube is introducing a new feature that provides earning opportunities. This innovative feature allows creators to restrict access to their videos exclusively to paying subscribers, creating an additional revenue stream.Creators can utilize this option to offer exclusive content to their subscribers, boosting engagement and incentivizing subscriptions. By being able to limit access to both pre-existing and uploaded short videos, creators can curate specialized content for their subscriber base. The rollout of this feature mirrors TikTok’s Series feature, launched in March 2023. This functionality enables eligible users to compile their videos into an album, accessible to viewers for a fee.Referred to as a “series album,” creators have control over pricing, ranging from $1 to $190 per album view. Notably, TikTok does not claim a portion of the revenue generated from series albums, but users must pay a fee to participate in the series program.
YouTube’s announcement comes amid impressive viewership figures, with its shorts videos accumulating an astonishing 70 billion views daily. Additionally, a quarter of channels within YouTube’s partner program are taking advantage of the monetization potential of shorts. This initiative underscores YouTube’s dedication to nurturing a thriving creator ecosystem and leveraging the growing popularity of short-form video content.
