Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur led a significant session on Friday with the Excise and Taxation Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, making pivotal decisions to modernize and enhance the department’s efficiency.
The Chief Minister’s directive includes the establishment of three distinct directorates aimed at bolstering the department’s effectiveness. These directorates will focus on vehicle registration and management, intelligence and narcotics control, and property tax, respectively, within the excise department.
Emphasizing the need for clearly defined responsibilities, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur stressed, “Necessary amendments to existing laws should be made to boost the department’s revenue.”
Furthermore, the Chief Minister instructed concerned authorities to reclaim excise vehicles being utilized by unauthorized individuals. Notices will be issued to these unauthorized users to return the vehicles within a specified timeframe. Failure to comply will result in the filing of FIRs against them. These vehicles will then be allocated to police and other provincial departments based on necessity.
Unused vehicles stored in Excise warehouses will undergo transparent auctioning procedures, without succumbing to political recommendations, as directed by the Chief Minister.
Highlighting the importance of proper documentation, Ali Amin Gandapur urged for thorough procedures to be followed for allocating vehicles to authorized government personnel.
In efforts to expand the tax base, the Chief Minister proposed unconventional methods, stressing the need to instill trust among taxpayers by ensuring that taxes from the affluent are utilized for the welfare of the underprivileged. He also advocated for strengthening disciplinary measures within the department while incentivizing employees who demonstrate outstanding performance.
Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur reiterated the importance of implementing modernization plans within designated timelines, emphasizing a pragmatic approach over mere presentations.
He concluded by underlining the necessity of exploring innovative avenues to enhance tax collection, with a focus on equitable distribution and efficient governance within the Excise and Taxation Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
