The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced on Tuesday the appointment of former Pakistan leg-spinner and World Cup winner, Mushtaq Ahmed, as the spin bowling coach for the Tigers in preparation for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
According to a press release issued by the BCB, Ahmed will join the team ahead of their preparation camp later this month for the T20 series against Zimbabwe. He will continue to work with the Bangladesh team until the culmination of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and USA.
Expressing his gratitude, Mushtaq stated that it was a great honor for him to contribute to the Bangladesh cricket team as a spin bowling coach. He eagerly anticipated the opportunity to share his experience with the players, emphasizing their coachable nature and their potential as one of the most formidable teams.
Highlighting Bangladesh’s capabilities, resources, and talent, Ahmed expressed confidence in their ability to compete against any opponent. He pledged to instill this belief in the team, expressing his excitement at the prospect of working with them.
Having previously served as the spin bowling coach for England, West Indies, and Pakistan, as well as the Green Shirts’ bowling consultant for two years, Ahmed brings a wealth of experience to his new role. During his tenure with the England Cricket Board, England achieved success in the T20 World Cup, secured victories in multiple Ashes series, and rose to the top of the ICC Team Rankings across all formats.
Additionally, Ahmed has gained experience working with various franchises, including Karachi Kings, Delhi Daredevils, and Surrey, further enriching his coaching portfolio.
