Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made his inaugural visit to Karachi since assuming office for the second time. During his day-long stay, he commenced his itinerary with a visit to the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, a revered site in the city. He is scheduled to hold crucial meetings with Governor Kamran Khan Tessori and Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.

The Prime Minister’s Office disclosed that Shehbaz Sharif will engage with prominent figures from the business community, with a scheduled audience with the Karachi Chamber of Commerce delegation. The primary aim of these interactions is to solicit input from business leaders on strategies to enhance the nation’s economic landscape.

Discussions during the meetings with the governor and chief minister will encompass issues pertaining to law and order and governance. Of significant concern is the escalating crime rate, a matter of contention between the ruling Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) and the coalition partner, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P). The MQM-P has raised the stakes, threatening protests and withdrawal from the government if effective measures are not implemented to address the deteriorating security situation.

While the PPP administration in Sindh has pointed fingers at the caretaker setup for the current state of affairs, the impending talks are anticipated to delve into actionable solutions to alleviate the concerns surrounding crime and governance in Karachi.
