Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori inaugurates the 1,294th annual urs celebrations of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi at the saint’s shrine in Karachi on Thursday. The governor lays a wreath on the grave, offers prayers for the country’s development, and distributes clothes, water, juices, and meals among pilgrims.

Speaking to journalists, Tessori expresses hope that Allah accepts prayers for Pakistan’s economic stability. He also prays for reduced heat intensity and rain in Sindh, especially Karachi. Responding to a question, the governor says that due to global climate change, Pakistan has suffered greatly in the past two years. He mentions that the spiritual leader of the Bohra community intends to visit Pakistan on his request, while letters have also been sent from five other countries. Over 50,000 people are expected to visit Karachi for the Bohra leader’s visit, boosting economic activity.

Tessori urges K-Electric to stop unannounced power cuts during extreme heat.

Additionally, the governor emphasizes the importance of the urs of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi, a revered Sufi saint, in fostering unity and spiritual growth among the people. He highlights the historical and cultural significance of the urs, which draws thousands of devotees from across the country and abroad. The celebrations include various religious and cultural activities, such as qawwali performances, seminars on Sufism, and communal meals.

The governor also discusses the measures taken to ensure the safety and comfort of the pilgrims, including increased security, medical facilities, and adequate arrangements for food and water. He thanks the local administration and volunteers for their efforts in organizing the event smoothly and efficiently.

Tessori further comments on the broader impact of the urs on the local economy, noting that the influx of visitors leads to increased business for local vendors, hotels, and transportation services. He underscores the need for continued support and investment in cultural and religious tourism to promote economic development and cultural exchange in Pakistan.

The governor concludes by reiterating his commitment to addressing the challenges faced by the people of Sindh, including power shortages, economic instability, and the effects of climate change. He calls on all stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector partners, and the community, to work together to create a prosperous and sustainable future for the region.
