Patricia Scotland KC, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, arrived in Pakistan early Sunday morning for her first official visit to the country, invited by the Government of Pakistan.
Upon her arrival at Islamabad Airport, she was welcomed by Additional Foreign Secretary (Europe) Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan.
During her five-day visit from July 28 to August 2, 2024, Secretary-General Scotland will engage with Pakistan’s leadership, cabinet members, youth leaders, civil society representatives, and other stakeholders.
A key aspect of her visit will be reaffirming solidarity with Pakistan on the second anniversary of the devastating 2022 floods, which submerged a third of the country and inflicted more than $30 billion in damage. She is also expected to tour some of the flood-affected areas.
Discussions during the visit will focus on enhancing cooperation between Pakistan and the Commonwealth in various areas of shared interest. These include supporting Pakistan’s national development plan, empowering youth, and boosting trade and investment.
As a founding member of the Commonwealth, Pakistan values the organization as a vital forum for building consensus on global issues and challenges.
