ISLAMABAD: Bushra Bibi, the wife of PTI founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, broke down in tears during a recent court appearance, as reported by ARY News. The former first lady was in court to attend a bail hearing related to cases involving both herself and her husband.
During the hearing, Bushra Bibi voiced her frustration, describing what she perceives as ongoing injustices that she and her husband have endured over the past nine months. She claimed that they have been unfairly targeted across Pakistan, expressing deep disillusionment with the legal process. In a powerful statement, she alleged that her lawyers, among others, have been wasting time, and she openly declared that she no longer believes she will find justice in the court system.
“I didn’t come here for justice because there simply isn’t any,” she said, adding that she was prepared to go to jail, revealing that her belongings were already packed.
It is worth noting that on July 13, both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were taken into custody under a new National Accountability Bureau (NAB) reference related to the Toshakhana case, shortly after their acquittal in the Iddat case. Deputy Director Mohsin Haroon of NAB led the team that arrested them from Adiala Jail.
Earlier this year, the couple was sentenced to seven years in prison and fined Rs500,000 each after a trial court ruled their marriage invalid.
In a related legal development, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) recently filed a petition in the Supreme Court, challenging the bail granted to Bushra Bibi by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in the Toshakhana-II case. The FIA argued that the bail was issued in the judge’s chambers, in violation of Supreme Court guidelines, and claimed Bushra Bibi was complicit in the case alongside her husband.
The Islamabad High Court had previously granted post-arrest bail to Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana-II case, with Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb accepting her plea against Rs1 million in surety bonds and ordering her immediate release.
